Hermann Baur (1894–1980) was one of the most signifi cant architects of the Swiss pre- and post-war Modern. In his work the buildings of the vocational school and the school for design in Basel represent the importance of public buildings. In addition they bear witness to an objectivity in concrete and the integration of art and architecture. The occasion for this publication was the completion of the renovation work on this impressive building ensemble, which both enabled and provoked a new view of this Swiss architectural classic. With essays by Gabriele Detterer, Rebekka Brandenberger, Michael Leuenberger, Gabriela Burkhalter, Simon Baur and Helmut Federle.
